Hednesford Town Ladies prepare to host Cresswell Wanderers Women in the league cup final.
After a thrilling semi-final against Milton United Ladies, winning 4-3, Hednesford secured their spot with a chance to win the silverware.
Milton United opened the scoring, and it was a battle between both sides, with Hednesford going into half-time with the upper hand at 3-2, with Town going on to grab the hard-fought victory.
The final is set to be an impressive watch, with Cresswell Wanderers being league leaders, accompanying Hednesford at the top of the table.
Town players Alicia Bailes and Laura Sears are looking forward to the final.
“I am feeling really happy about reaching the final after a tough semi final as the girls showed real character and resilience to come back from behind twice.
“When we have a busy week of league fixtures it is important we prepare right on and off the pitch to put ourselves in the best position for the final.
“It was important we recruited well for the forthcoming season, as well as learning about the players and playing new systems and formations on the pitch to get the best out of the players.
“It has also been important that we have had clear goals and ensured the squad to continue to be motivated to reach those goals.”
In terms of the women’s game and the benefits of recent coverage, the players said: “It has helped grassroots football in regards to funding and we were lucky enough to benefit from that as we competed in the FA Cup.”
Kick off for the game is 2pm this Sunday at Pershall Park.
